I was just about to click "buy" and then I saw Nophead's neutral
feedback. I asked Nophead what the boards were like and he got back to
me with this:
"it is actually a home made single sided PCB with SMT components on
the back and a few wire links. The chip is in a socket, something not
recommended on the datasheet. There is no 5V regulator, you have to
power it from a PC power supply. There are no LEDs and the ribbon
connector is just pin strips rather than a polarised box header."
Lucky I spotted this as I was after a reference design, I decided to
make my own Pololu based one instead. I'm not saying Snipermand is out
to scam people but I wish he would be a bit more honest with the
item's description and pictures as it seems he is trying to deceive.

I can't be certain, but it looks like he's used edge mount pots for
the stepper drivers, so they might not be accessible. If thats the
case, they are junk. Interesting choices all round for connectors
too.

The pots are thumbwheel pots, so are actually a better choice. No tiny screw driver needed, just your finger. Having shorted a Pololu by accidentally neglecting to power down before adjusting the current and then dropping the screwdriver, any steps to keep metal bits away from the driver is a good idea in my book.

That post is over 1 year old. I always think when someone dredges up
old stuff like that then they have an ulterior motive. Perhaps he has
gotten better but that does not mean that the two people who never
received their items or received items that were not as described were
wrong. Considering that Nophead was one of those then I would consider
that the seller has issues.

I dont disagree with what you say, just the title of the thread. Is there a time limit on replies then?? because the age of the thread has no bearing on the damage that can be done by it.
Few sellers can pass 1000 sales without some problems and ive experienced the sharp end of it, but usually it gets resolved by the seller or even ebay if need be, I also dont doubt that people have had a "not as expected transaction" Just take the time to read what i have posted, "we must all be mindful of the wording" Two wrongs dont make a right.. and my post suggested that maybe it would be better to speak to the guy, after all nobody is perfect..

The people who were not happy have talked to him and i am sure they will contribute to this thread again now that you have brought it back to the top. But when it comes down to it i would certainly trust Rob and Zip who are frequent contributers here over someone who has not posted before. Especially when that particular seller has posted in these forums under other names just to advertise his web site.

Check with Ebay on their time limit for complaints. I believe it's 30 days. If you make the complaint within that period and Ebay investigates and concludes that you will never get the product, they will refund you. I made the mistake of listening to Snipermand's advice on making me wait beyond that time in order for him to finish making the item. Ebay would not investigate the issue due to the grace period being over and I was out $70.
On a side note, I ordered a food product over Ebay earlier this year that cost around $15 dollars. I waited over a week and didn't get it. I emailed the seller and no response. So I issued a formal Ebay complaint right away within the grace period. Ebay investigated and refunded me the money. However, weeks later the seller surprised me by delivering me the product free of charge which included a written apology.
