But sadly I failed at uploading the new 1.8 firmware.
When I connect the TTL cable to the platruder i walway get the error
message:
WARNING: RXTX Version mismatch
Jar version = RXTX-2.2pre1
native lib Version = RXTX-2.2pre2
I am using Windows, but I am positive that i get the same message also
when I use Mac OS X 10.4 or Ubuntu.
Is this error critical or is something else preventing me from
uploading?

I tried to replace every rxtxSerial.dll and RXTXcomm.jar with the ones
downloaded from the page mentioned. I did not get rid of the warning,
but after uploading the motherboard firmware (not changing the verion)
i somehow managed to update the extruder firmware to 1.8. Then I was
able to apply the settings for the small thermistor.
Now I am able to print.
I don't have a solution for my set of problems, but at least a
message: Keep on trying.
