For anybody else that encounters an issue with the safety cutoff on a
MK7 suddenly
tripping when it worked fine before for months with no changes.
(this is with the extra layer)
It appears that the ceramic tape becomes compressed and disintegrates
over
time causing more heat to be transferred through the tape and
eventually resulting
in the cutoff tripping at the target temperature.
Solution is to replace the extra layer with new.

My Mk7 which dates to early Nov 2011 has had to have this done once to it already -- that was about 2 weeks ago. So, you're not alone in having had to do this.
