RIT Green Initiative members,

The e-mail below was sent to student leaders a few days ago.  We can use help from anyone who is available and willing to lend a hand.

Arnav and Luke,

A few weeks ago, we discussed students from the Green RIT Initiative helping with the restoration project in the wetlands near John Street.  We are in the process of purchasing the plants and other materials and now we need your help.  We need groups of student volunteers for three activities.  First there will be some preparatory work.  We will need to do some limited clearing and cutting of existing plant matter (grass, dead bushes, etc.) to make room for the plantings.  This can be done on a week day if we can find a time that students are available, banding is not being conducted at RITBO, and Dr. Mathiason is available to supervise the operation.  Alternatively, this could be done on the afternoon of Saturday, October 3, 2009 beginning at about 1 PM.  We also need help with the actual plantings.  This will be done on the afternoon of October 3rd and/or 10th, depending on the preparatory work.  Lastly, help is needed with building temporary boardwalk sections to facilitate ongoing avian conservation research at RITBO.

Please let us know, as soon as possible about the availability of student help through Green RIT.  It may be easiest if you contact Dr. Mathiason directly regarding the preparatory work.

Thanks,

John Waud

Please consider joining the group planting shrubs and building temporary boardwalks.  Working together we can make RIT a greener place.

Thanks,

John
