hi ho all!
Don't know whether anyone's still here...
It's tricky to stay in touch from San Francisco -- Maine IxDA seems to have
gotten somewhat quiet, aside from the great book club meetings and I believe
a collaborative project with Portland Trails (I've missed the reportbacks,
videos, photos, whatevs on those events).
Anyway -- in case you hadn't heard it's happening this Friday June 10 at
USM, this Maine AIGA event seems pretty cool
"ABSTRACT <http://abstractconference.com/> is a day of in-depth, highly
visual and interactive sessions led by some of the most accomplished design
and media talents currently working in the United States. From a
business-focused discussion of design as a driver of innovation—and
revenue—to an in-depth practicum on launching an iPad publication, ABSTRACT
promises to enlighten, challenge, and inspire."
Seems to focus mostly on design in context of *periodicals*---newspapers and
magazines---digital and print. I don't know the backstory on how this
conference came into being---but has the feel of a conference that
originated with the AIGA mothership, and which happens to be in Maine,
rather than being about design in Maine or Maine designers.
A solid substantive interesting conference, particularly if you're interested
in the nexus of design and the media formerly known as "print" :)
Which is totally cool. Portland as a design conference destination point!
maybe in the future Maine AIGA and Maine IxDA will collaborate on such a
conference -- I would totally come back for something like that.
