What's Maine IxDA...?
Maine IxDA is a local chapter of IxDA, the Interaction Design Association. IxDA is a novel kind
of “un-organization” and there is no cost for membership. IxDA relies on its passionate
members
to help serve the needs of the international Interaction Design
community. With over 10,000 members
and 70 local groups around
the world, the IxDA network actively focuses on interaction design
issues for the
practitioner, no matter his or her level of experience.
What's IxD...?
Interaction Design (IxD) defines the structure and behavior of interactive products and services.
Interaction Designers create compelling relationships between people and the interactive systems
they use, from computers to mobile devices to appliances.
And MaineUX...?
Started by Susan Doran in late 2007, MaineUX was sometimes described as "People doing cool
things on the web...in Maine." That nailed the essence. In practice MaineUX was an interdisciplinary,
multi-practice statewide professional community interested in user experience (aka UX)---meaning
human-centric design, user experience, usability, information architecture, design of many stripes:
visual, interaction, social, web, games, software, graphic, industrial—and stretching across the frontiers
of web 2.0/3.0, social and new media, mobile, collaborative tech, human-centric IT, information design,
content creation and strategy, SEO/SEM, search, findability, agile, nimble programming, and more.
As of July 22, 2009, Maine IxDA is the new MaineUX...except better! MaineUX was fun, but we now
we get to be part of and contribute to something much bigger than us, plus keep our local flavor. Like
MaineUX, Maine IxDA recognizes the value of bringing together smart creative people from allied, complementary
professions focusing on designing creative, compelling, and meaningful user experiences in Maine.
The best of all possible worlds!
