Got an email from someone whose emails end up down at the bottom
of the Incoming Mailbox or somewhere in the middle even when
sorted by date. It was sent today and should have been at top of
the list. I saw there was a new email but couldn't find the one
with the black dot so I expanded the list window partition all
the way to the bottom to more easily find it. Now even when I
click and hold on the dot in the centre of the bottom of the
list it no longer resizes the two horizontal parts of the
window. It doesn't budge! So I've no way of reading an email in
the bottom half of the window.

Please help and advise.

thanks,

ncm

Try double-clicking on the dot & see if that works.

BTW: There is a long standing bug in Mailsmith (at least in
10.4.11) where if you work with the browser window collapsed (no
previews), and then move the button/bar up, it breaks up the
text view. Either the text below the bar sticks, or it blurs.
Either way, you need to quit/relaunch to make it work as intended.

Nope, neither double clicking nor any other key combinations worked
(Command/Option/Shift/whatever). Neither did quitting and restarting
Mailsmith. I finally did fix the problem but don't recall exactly what
combination of things worked. I did come across the bug in Mailsmith/
OS 10.4.11 that another poster mentioned. Very weird. But perhaps part
of the eventual solution.
