Custom Subscription form

I want to use my own subscription form which will contain only one
field, the "E-mail" field, coded directly to the theme page. The e-
mail will be submitted using ajax and client side validation. I have
the form in ready in place, I only need to know if this will work and
how can it be accomplished.
