You want an /etc/init.d script.  If you bind to rc.local you lose the restart and checking functionality.

There have been some community submitted startup scripts that work pretty well. Just look in the archives of this list, and you will find a couple of examples

hm...

I never noticed a startup script for barnyard in the times I've compiled it. of course, outside of the configure, make and barnyard2.conf files that come out of the tarball, I wasn't really paying attention...

Why not create an entry in /etc/rc.local for barnyard?

Anyone know where the Init file (startup script to copy to init.d) for barnyard2 and the barnyard.sysconfig files are in the latest firnsy download or where I can obtain them?

I would like to add barnyard as a service and have it start automatically but I can't seem to locate these 2 files.

Thanks!
Nick

Yeah init.d scripts are exactly what I'm looking for

To be able to make it a service.

I was told that it is possible to use the snortd script and modify that script to use it for barnyard.

Thanks for help,
