Since my last message regarding writing a HOWTO on using a second postfix
install on slower, cheaper hardware as a fallback, I've been thinking about
how best to sort that type of thing out in terms of documentation.

What occured to me is a moderately simple web library, essentially cataloging
all the ways people set up postfix instances (or even regular mail, really),
with the HOWTO's linked in under the appropriate sections.

I'd be willing to work on the framework, if others think it would be a good
idea and would be willing to chime in with ideas, HOWTO's, metrics, or
personal experience on it.

So, do you think this would be useful to postfix admins, both novice and
experienced? Let me know, it's looking like a slow weekend at this point. :)

If this works, then I'd be more than happy to link it form the
Postix web site.

PS I must be deformed, because the subject (configuration library)
made me think of writing library routine code. I understand that
the poster was considering a collection of documents, like a book
library.

Hi all,
Along these lines I thought about Mr. Bill's recent web page work showing
different regexp header and body checks and wondered why someone couldn't
make this a resource that could just be downloaded as a file. I'd love to
have a chron job just go this this stuff daily so that we could leverage
everyone's work in this area.

There would be some potential issues for security of the files, but I'm
sure that could be effectively dealt with. Those of us less capable really
appreciate everything you super users are doing.

Thanks,
Mark

Whoops! Good point, and no, you're not deformed, just in codespace. :)

How about "configuration encyclopedia", or "configuration repository",
although the latter can have specific computer meanings as well.

The response so far has been positive, I'll see what I can clobber together
over the weekend for a framework, provided I can get my home system back in
shape. Pesky thing.

How about "More than you wanted to know about Postfix configurations" ?

Ok, so it's long. Encyclopedia isn't a bad one..

How about
"How Postfix can improve your sex-life and help you become a millionaire
at the same time"

Just a thought...

I'd rather see a HowTo in a :

This is what I want to do: (in plain english)

This is how I would do it.. (again in plain english)

It's taken me quiet a while to wade though all the docs and slowly get an
idea
of what Postfix is capable of...

mostly because in alot of the documents, it is assumed you know all the
lingo
and have written m4's for sendmail before...:-)

define a problem, then define the solutions... (sort of like a FAQ format
except
not regarding problems found once setup,
but the setup itself..)

thats what i plan. A database with working regexp/pcre matches and a
classification
so you can 'generate' your file by getting it from the web .. you can choose
Spam related checks only, or Virus related checks etc. but i'm still on building
that .. some things are working already :)
