I've installed FreeBSD 8.1, then installed xorg-server-1.7.5,1 and
gnome2-2.30.1_1
Has: gnome_enable="YES" # in rc.conf
gdm is executed, but my gnome doesn't start correctly.
In gdm/:0.log it says:

gnome-session[96761]: WARNING: Could not launch application 'at-spi-
registryd-wrapper.desktop': Unable to start application: Failed to
execute child process "${exec_prefix}/libexec/at-spi-registryd" (No
such file or directory)
gnome-session[96761]: atk-bridge-WARNING: AT_SPI_REGISTRY was not
started at session startup.
gnome-session[96761]: atk-bridge-WARNING: IOR not set.
gnome-session[96761]: atk-bridge-WARNING: Could not locate registry
etc.

The guy from here has the same exact problem:
http://www.listware.net/201005/freebsd-gnome/90450-trouble-with-gnome-session-0.html

Tried to mount /proc and reinstall sysutils/polkit, sysutils/
policykit.
When starting /usr/local/libexec/at-spi-registryd directly, I have:

** (<unknown>:55314): WARNING **: Could not set GTK_MODULES: The name
org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files
** (<unknown>:55314): WARNING **: Failed to register client: The name
org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files
** (<unknown>:55314): WARNING **: Unable to register client with
session manager

Any ideas?

Bug in GNOME
Should be fixed in GNOME 2.32
See: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.os.freebsd.devel.gnome/30604

To workaround, run:
sed -i '.bak' -e 's@Exec=${exec_prefix}@Exec=/usr/local@' `locate at-
spi-registryd-wrapper.desktop`
