Hello, open office debs.

Can you please tell me when are we getting Ia2 support in open office?

I use nvda as my screenreader and I was told that Ia2 support would be
added to open office before the end of the year.

With thanks
Kevin Cussick.

You think some "deb" (assuming that means debutant==beginner) would be
able to answer? Or would actually consider answering if you start your
question this way?

come on Malte...

he's asking for some information about "I Accessible 2" support within
OpenOffice.org. He's currently using the open source based screen reader
from http://www.nvda-project.org/

The current Ia2 status can be accessed from OOo Wiki at
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Accessibility/IAccessible2_support

Looking at the status I cannot say anything about "when" because the
current implementation doesn't seem to be compatible to current versions
of OpenOffice.org. I don't know who's working on this actively.

Really helpful regarding information about accessibility (a11y) topics
is the following Wiki page:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Accessibility

Well, if the question wouldn't have been accessibility related, I
wouldn't have answered at all, but would have completely ignored the
email just because of the form of address ;)

I'm sorry if I offended you,

I have read what I put and can't see what I have said wrong I am asking
a question and I in turn don't think I should be flamed on the list I
don't Kare if you are a mod or not. if you are you should give a better
example I would still like an answer.

hello,

Thanks for your help on this and will take a look later on when I have
more time.

It#s taking a long time for Ia2 support in open office to be
implemented. but I do like open office just don't like the access
bridge software and the reg file to get the accessibility features
switched on.

Again thanks for your help it's nice to see there are some helpful
people still around.

As Kevin states that he is using a screen reader, perhaps this was just
a typo:

If he wanted to write "dev" (for developer) and his finger moved a few
cm to the side, he wrote "deb" and didn't mention it.

(And with a screen reader both syllables sound very similar...)

Best regards

Bernhard

Malte,
I suspect he meant to write to devs, not debs.
It's probably not the best policy to flame over a typo . . . .

Hello,

My last word on this is I meant Dev as in developers of open office I
don't think there was any call for the rood response I got. But thanks
for the help I got on and off list.

Hi Kevin,

then sorry for my reaction.

I only did read the first line and thought WTF?!

I saw too many mails on different lists and forums in the last weeks
where people complained about some stuff and used the wrong wording,
very often resulting in something that open source would suck because
nobody would implement the thing they want to have.

Of course I understand that IA2 is important for OOo.

So to finally answer your initial question: We can't say/promise when
exactly IA2 support will be in OOo.

IBM promised to contribute their implementation (they did it for Lotus
Symphony, which is based on OOo), so we are on hold, and didn't start to
implement it on our own.

http://ui.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=accessibility&msgNo=107
http://blogs.sun.com/malte/entry/iaccessible2_or_ibm_to_contribute

I pinged them some weeks ago, and I am quite confident that we really we
get something soon, but probably not this year anymore.

When they deliver, we will help them to integrate it into OOo asap.

Best regards,
Malte.
