Hey all, since the deadline for this is two days from now (May 15th), let's make these two days the final push to get this project done. Make sure that you have the most up-to-date version on GitHub, which can be found here: https://github.com/MAGLaboratory/PingPongMPIDE

Here's what we've done so far and what we'll need to do before then:

Currently, we've isolated the music signal that needs to be fed to ping pong tubes, which appears to be the array x[]. We've had much progress on Friday and there's only a tiny amount left to do before we make a YouTube clip.

There's still an issue when there's no music playing, or that there's no input that the array would be getting noise from the FFT rather than setting the values to 0. The other issues we have is the response time of the fans and getting the music to play with the ping-pong spectrometer (which we can probably just use a voice-over on the youtube video, but I'll see if I can hack anything up tonight).

Let me know if anyone can make it today or tomorrow to get this project finished.

This is due to the normalization of the FFT, so when the signal goes away it amplifier the spectrum to maximize it on the display.  I'm thinking that if we just turn the normalization off and display the raw spectrum that this would fix the (mask) the issue.  Actually, a second thought, we probably don't need to fix it at all for proof of concept and making a video.  But it would be nice if it was fixed.

After adjusting some formulas and fixing a overrun, got spectrum to show in balls. HUUURAY !
Check out the 'Ping Pong Audio Visualizer' on the space's WiKi page.

This thing eats quite a bit of charge, we'll be recording this thing tomorrow (on the deadline) and submitting it hopefully before 9:00 PM PST just in case.

I'm still at work. Just in case I can't make it, here's the URL to make the submission. http://www.microchip.com/pagehandler/en_us/promo/chipKIT/submissions.html

I was playing music straight from Youtube. Unfortunately I'm still at work because there's an emergency here, so I might not make it.

Yes I submitted the project about 9:30 pm 15 May. The contest page asked for name, e-mail address and name of project and they will e-mail us back with more instructions for uploading code and schematic. Never got that instruction e-mail. Hummm

Okay, I'm sure you will get it...  I know the guys running the contest if it doesn't come by the end of the day I'll let them know.

I got the instruction e-mail and did the submission. We are 'chipKIT Design Challenge Submission – ck768'.
I also update the description on the YouTube video.

Time to cross your fingers. The winners will be announced 15 June 13

Rather than crossing our fingers lets promote the hell out of the video... Let add an annotation to the video where you can vote on the project, once that is there we should start submitting it to sites like hack-a-day and the like...

Maybe we should even post some flyers around CalPoly and MtSAC to get student support...

I think several people sould submit it to hack a day so that they are hyper aware of the video but we need to get the vote link in annotation asap so that people can see the link on there first viewing.
