I'd like to create a template for the US that uses equal areas (say 100 sq miles) as boundaries instead of counties (or other political boundary). This could be a layer but I was thinking a template would be nice since I'd use this as the base for analysis frequently.
Any thoughts about how to do this?

Hi Drew,
There might be Shapefiles out there that do this, but I like the idea
of having a "Create Grid Layer" feature of some sort for the kinds of
analysis you describe. I'll keep it in mind!

Thanks. That would be a nice feature. You may know this but the USNG (US National Grid) is based on a 1000m x 1000m grid system. Allowing a grid to be created automatically, at a user-defined dimension would provide data visualization that would be less biased by size (e.g. western counties are much larger than eastern counties and, therefore, produce more visual impact even when they have the same value).
