Hi,

I installed Magic Fields 2, and so far it seems to be working fine. However, I get this error at the top of all of my admin pages:

Magic Fields is not ready yet. The following folders must be writable (usually chmod 777 is neccesary):
[...]/wp-content/files_mf/cache/
[...]/wp-content/files_mf/

Due to company policy, I am not allowed to set permissions to 777. Currently, those folders are set to 755. Since everything is working, I'm hoping this will be sufficient, but the error message makes me nervous.

Basically, I'm asking that if it is not an option for me to set permissions to 777, is it still possible for me to use Magic Fields? The best I can do is 755. I've also searched through previous topics and it seems that others use Magic Fields with permissions set to 755...

Thanks,
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

if the error message is still displayed, then those directories are not writable.

Whether you need 777 or 775 or 755 depends on your environment. If the PHP is running as a different user and as a different group, then it needs 777. For more info see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chmod#Octal_modes

I think Magic Fields will work even if those directories are not writable, but the file uploads may go to a different directory.
