Hi,

I have a duplicated group with 40 entries (and the group contains 12
fields). I have duplicated it 40 times now, and need many more, but
the loading times are so slow for adding a new item that the browser
(Chrome) thinks it has crashed...

Is there any way to improve this? Why does it take so long - I'd have
thought it is only adding with javascript the fields?

Please help.

That's a LOT of fields :)

There's probably a bottleneck somewhere in the code where the number
of fields impacts the performance wen you add a field. You're right to
say that it should be pretty fast to add a field, but the more fields
you add, the slower things will go in general - you'e talking 40 * 12
= 480 fields, which is quite a lot for the browser to deal with.

We can't sort this out immediately, sorry, but it's noted. If you're
comfortable with coding, have a dig around in "groups.js" and see if
you can see anything that might be causing the issue.

I'd also say that if you're duplicating a field 40 times and need many
more, it might be better to make your GROUP a CUSTOM WRITE PANEL
instead, that is, make your items posts/pages rather than group
duplicates?

All the best.

Hi Traversal thanks for replying,

It can't be a custom write panel really, as this would mean so much
more work adding a post for every single one.

It may also be that there are several Related Type fields in it, so
they are loading the whole list of posts each time as well..

I'm not really comfortable with digging around in groups.js but would
be willing to pay to sponsor an update as soon as possible, as this is
making it difficult to update a site that really needs to go live
before Christmas!

Please let me know.

Hi I'm bumping this thread, hoping someone can help me out? I now have
a page with 70 entries and it takes forever to load!

Hi,

The last versions of Magic Fields have a huge improvement in his UI
and all this eyecandy required a lot of javascript and process.

The more easy solution is i think to downgrade the magic fields
version into the 1.4 version where all the fields be printed using
php.

This will improve the process but Travis is right this is a lot of
info for be displayed only in one page.

I can help you to make the downgrade but i need to know if you are
agree with this solution.

David.

Hi David,

Do you really think a downgrade is the best way? I did not like the UI
of the previous version and don't think that would be a good solution.
It would be better if we found out why it was so slow and fixed that.
What was it about the new UI that slows it down? Surely all it does is
expand and collapse the fields? Is there not a way it can be improved?

Thanks.. I'm hoping we can fix this.
