Hi,

Any preference?

I'm upgrading a rails app from 2.0 to 3.x.  It used sphinx, which I see has been updated recently.  My only (limited) experience has been with solr.

Does anyone have a story to tell about moving from sphinx to solr or upgrading sphinx?

Thanks,

Steve

You might want to consider using Elastic search also. There's a good Railscast here: http://railscasts.com/episodes/306-elasticsearch-part-1 with some good discussion in the comments regarding the different options.

I don't have a lot of information to offer, but I've used Thinking Sphinx in a 3.1 app with Sphinx 2.0.  It was a cinch to install Sphinx on my Linux distro.  Thinking Sphinx was pretty easy to set up, but the documentation was a bit general. I also found Sphinx a bit simple and ended up doing more advanced stuff with js.  I opted with Sphinx over Solr, because I found it had fewer dependencies/less overhead.  I'm not sure if that helps at all, but if you're trying to decide how to proceed, maybe it'll be of some use.
