Here is an answer to Tom about Poynette...Portage just passed an ordinance to allow the keeping of chickens..it was previously prohibited...good luck.
Personally I think some dog yards and other allowed animals are dirtier and noisier than chickens.

Cheryl - To my knowledge there is no ordinance dealing with raising chickens for eggs and meat for personal use. There are zoning rules that would prohibit this if the intent was to sell the eggs and/or meat in a residential zone. Another issue would be noise. Not unlike a barking dog, chickens or should I say roosters, can be noise at a time that might not be compatible in a neighborhood where the houses are close to each other. Also they will attract predators such as fox, raccoons and coyotes which could be a problem that could impact a neighbors property.
