Subject: Sharing calendars with Google Calendar and iCal
Hi, guys,

I am trying to have my girlfriend and I share calendars.  She uses Google Calendar on the web, and I use iCal, or would prefer to continue using iCal.  What is the best way to have us share calendars?  I do have an FTP server which hosts my website, if there were a way to set my calendar up through that so we could share that way.  I know traditionally it can be a bit complicated.  What I am looking for is a way so I can makes changes in iCal and it shows up in her Google calendar, and she makes changes and it show up on mine.  In other words, what I used to be able to do when I worked and the secretary would make changes on mine and her shared Outlook calendar using a Microsoft Exchange server.

If this makes sense, does anyone have an idea of how this might be accomplished?

Regards,

Harry

Hey Harry,

I share my work calendar with my team and have given access to a few people to see my free or busy status on my private calendar.
You can set up the sharing through Google Calendar on the Web and then stay on iCal to manage your entries.

See here: http://support.google.com/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=37082

Hope this helps,
Emrah

Just to clarify some more, you need to have your Google Calendar set up on iCal.

Open up iCal, go to preferences, choose the account tab and add a new Calendar account. Fill in your Google information and you'll be good to go.

Hi, it still doesn't seem to work to sync my iCal and Google Calendar.  Which account type do I choose?  And what do I put for the server?

Thanks.

Harry

Hi there,

when you create an account, you should be prompted to choose a type and you can select Google there. Just fill in your details and you will have read write access to your calendar, all from the convenience of iCal.
The sharing and permissions is managed through the Google Calendar pages on the Web.

Hth,
Emrah
