Hey Everyone!

WWDC is getting close and I wanted to make sure the MacRuby community has a chance to get together while everyone's in town. If you're going to be in town and want to join us, please RSVP here:

http://macrubymeetup.eventbrite.com/

Right now I have Erik Michaels-Ober and Laurent Sansonetti on board to give some brief presentations. If anyone else feels like presenting a topic or a project, let me know.

Also, please help out and publicize this event. Attendance is limited to 50 people, and it'd be nice to have a full house.

christian.

Hi Christian,

Awesome! Thanks for setting this up!

I think we should wait one more day before advertising the link on twitter, to make sure subscribers of the mailing-list can RSVP before. I will post a link to the event tomorrow via @MacRuby.

That sounds reasonable.

BTW, Pivotal has a videographer reserved for the event, and asked if we would like the presentations recorded and placed on their tech talks page:

http://pivotallabs.com/talks

Will you and/or Erik's presentations be formal-ish enough to make this worthwhile, or should we pass on recording them?

I can't speak for Erik, but I'm not allowed to do any presentation. I can attend the meeting, discuss the project and answer questions though (like a BoF, which I thought was the plan here).

I wouldn't use the word "formal" to describe my talk, but Pivotal is
welcome to record it and put it online. :)

I was asked to speak at this event by Rich Morin, after giving a short
presentation on MacRuby to the SFRuby group last month. Here are the
slides for the talk I delivered at SFRuby:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/52652887/GUI-Programming-with-MacRuby

In that talk, I tried to make the case that MacRuby is the best choice
for Rubyists who want to do native, GUI development. I assume the
audience for this event will be coming in with more of an
Cocoa/Objective-C background, so I will probably rework the talk to
focus on why they might want to consider learning MacRuby. Does that
seem about right?

I was expecting a pretty informal set of presentations too, hence why I asked whether we really needed the videographer. I didn't know about you couldn't present though.

I'll let them know they can tape Erik if they want, but that's the only planned presentation.

thanks!

Hey All,

The MacRuby WWDC Meetup is now 60% full! Make sure to RSVP if you really want to make it. And if you have a ticket and change your mind, please free up your spot for someone else.

Also, the meetup will not be recorded, so you'll have to be there to participate :)

Hi Christian,

I just tweeted a link to the page from the @MacRuby account, so I think it's going to be full very soon now :)

Thanks for setting this up!

Thanks to everyone who made it out last night! It was a lot of fun for me, and hopefully others would say the same.
