Andrew,
I use the latest version of Conflict Catcher. It's System aware of whether
it's being launched via OS 9 startup or OS X in Classic. I have two system
aware sets...one for OS 9 (contains all my bells and whistles) and one for
OS X. The OS X set is very lean and mean and I've disabled everything in OS
9 I don't really need. This includes:
The Control strip and all it modules
All Fax control strips and extensions
Everything dealing it iTunes
FreePPP
Location manager
All Remote Access and Dialing Assist stuff. (I have DSL, anyway)
I've also set Classic to NOT launch automatically when booting from from OS
X. After OS X is up and running, I launch Classic Entourage (just to get
Classic up and running and to read my email) and then I'm good to go for the
rest of the day. The above, plus 1G RAM allows me to launch and run
concurrently Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks (all Classic), check my pages in
Classic IE and Netscape and even the OS X versions of the browsers.
I'm using an "old" G3 blue and white upgraded with a Sonnet ZIF G4 and am
delighted with the zip of everything. Very rarely do I need to startup in OS
9...usually when I need to fax something.

I too am running OS X 10.1.1 and have just reinstalled Flash into classic (got a job needing a flash piece). Just like Andrew, my flash performance in classic is dismal - I can draw a square and wait 2 seconds for it to fill in. It is unusable.
I have a tiny extention set loaded for classic - virtually nothing. I have a Dual 500 Mhz G4, with 1+ Gigs of RAM.
Joe, are you saying that on your machine Flash runs acceptably? I would like to figure out what is going on with my setup so I don't have to boot into 9 (flash would be the only reason I would do that now)...
Thanks for any help!
Brian
I am running Flash in Classic 9.2.1 with OSX 10.1.1 and I'm finding it
doesn't crash and it seems nearly as fast as native 9.

Most things are okay, but the screen drawing/redrawing time is
unacceptable... when I draw objects or drag symbols around, it takes
forever.
Could this be a system config that affects the screen redrawing? Or, is it
the Flash app?
I'm running a bare bones 9.2.1 in 10.1.1 now... and it still hasn't helped.

NoSpamJeff-
I would give an arm, a leg, and something else unmentionable to be able to get even near similar performance in classic on my rig.
What kind of extentions are you running?
What kind of memory have you allocated to Flash?
What kind of vid card do you have?
What am I not thinking of?
There must be a reason why you are getting acceptable performance and I can't even draw a square without waiting 3 or 4 seconds for it to show up.
Any help is appreciated!
Brian,
I've a G3 b/w, 6G Internal + another 20G ATA Internal. The G3 has max (1G)
ram and I've upgraded the CPU to a Sonnet Encore G4 ZIF 500 mhz. OS 9.2.1 is
on the smaller 6G and 10.1 on the larger 20G drive. I've Conflict Catcher's
latest which is OS aware and have two extension sets. One is invoked if I
startup from the OS 9 disk and contains all the normal bells and whistles.
The other is invoked from OS X when launching Classic. This set is really
stripped down. Everything non essential is disabled, including OS 9's
Location manager, control strip, NetBarrier (my OS 9 firewall), all iTunes
thingees, and OpenGL. This happy (lucky?) combination allows me to launch and
run Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, IE 5 (OS 9) all together and they are
very zippy.
One final note: I do not launch Classic at startup of OS X. I wait until OS
X is up and running and then launch Entourage (OS 9) to check me email. This
gets Classic up and running and then I'm off to work. Your mileage may vary
but please avoid sacrificing your firstborn to placate the fickle OS Gods.
It makes a mess of the living room ;-).
