I have 2 buttons in my application that uses the getURL(URL,"_blank") function
and have noticed that when I have my pop-blocker running the new window never
opens but when I turn off the pop-blocker the window opens fine. Now if I use
the same technique in regular html for a link with a target="_blank" it
operates fine both with and without the pop-up blocker running. Are there any
suggetions on getting a work around for this. It seems pop-up blocker's don't
like the getURL(URL,"_blank") funciton coming out of flash and thus considers
it a pop-up and then blocks it. This is causing me some grief, please any
suggetions?

I am running:
win 2000 server
Flash MX
ColdFusion MX
I.E. 6.0

TIA

I don't know the hows and whys of this, but you're right. Because the
link is activated from Flash -- I'm guessing because Flash is "Active
content" and not a simple HTML link -- the browser thinks the link is
spamware-triggered. In general, this is a problem with any link that isn't
directly "chosen" by the user (eg., JavaScript-triggered popups can fail
too, because the *user* hasn't chosen to activate the link, a *process*
has). We can thank over-zealous spammers for this kind of predicament.

I have no guaranteed solution, but you can try using getURL() to trigger
JavaScript in your HTML page that, in turn, launches your new browser.
Perhaps your popup blocker wouldn't be *as* concerned. But who knows what
your intended users have installed?
