After I applied the most recent Mac OS update (10.6.3), MacFusion no
longer loaded on start. So then I just started it manually. Except now
all of my servers no longer show up in the main window. And when I try
to start the menu item, i get this error:
"Could not connect to macfusion agent. Macfusion Menuling will now
quit."

Also, not only is my main window list now blank, I can't even add any
new connections. The '+' button appears to do nothing. When I look at
the Logs, it says:
(MacFusion, MFSettingsController, <datetime>)
Agent not runing, Request to Start.

Any ideas? Re-install?

There are many reports of this. Looks like something is up with
Macfusion and the 10.6.3 update.
I'll be investigating today or tomorrow.

At least the implementation to mount NTFS volumes is working ok. I do happen to be running 2.1.5 beta though.

Is anyone seeing messages in Console? That would be helpful.

If it is an SSH problem, your key pairs may have been messed up by the
OSX upgrade.

You might want to try logging into your file server using 'ssh
user...@fileservername.com' from the command line in Terminal. If
this works OK, try MacFusion again.

If command line SSH doesn't work, look for the error messages. In the
past I have had to delete and then remake a key pair in Terminal using
SSH before MacFusion would mount a remote volume using SSH. I don't
remember the details but the process is well documented elsewhere

Michael,

It looks to me like 10.6.3 has broken a custom view component (among
other things). The "attempt to insert nil" errors occurred when I
tried to click on the plus button to add a mount:

As you can see, I tried launching it a couple times. Hope that helps!

system.log has three lines when starting Macfusion:

Illegal NSTableView data source. Must implement
numberOfRowsInTableView: and tableView:objectValueForTableColum:row:

Agent not runing. Request to Start.

-[NSCFArray insertObject:atIndex:]: attempt to insert nil

and I see macfusionAgent errors just like the third line above,
attempt to insert nil, when that tries to run. Nothing super obvious,
but the problem is at least that the macfusionAgent doesn't stay
running. The sshfs app from MacFuse works, if that helps narrow
things down.

I added some code to deal with the datasource missing methods, but the
nil insertion remains.

Here's the stack trace for the nil insertion:

I don't know if that would be helpful but this is what I got if
running Macfusion from Terminal session:

I have now updated to OSX 10.6.3 and I have no problems with MacFusion
1.2 Beta 3 (1.1.268). I can mount or automount SSH and EncFs volumes.

(I am running MacFusion 1.2 Beta 3 because I use EncFS plugin, which
does not seem to work with current MacFusion).

For those of you stranded without your beloved sshfs mounts, the
command line binary you can download here: http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/wiki/MACFUSE_FS_SSHFS
works with the MacFUSE betas that work in 64 bit Snow Leopard kernels.

I don't mean to sound bitchy, but Macfusion and SSHfs in general are
*very* cool and incredibly useful tools! It would be *awesome* to have
a much more painless install-and-forget sort of experience - an
install that works with 32 and 64 bit kernels, a fixed and/or removed
sshnodelay.so workaround, and an easy way to download the compatible
version of MacFUSE (for some reason the 2.1.x betas are not available
on the MacFUSE Google Code page). It took me a while to find the right
combination of binary and kext that worked for me - I tried Macports,
several sources online that may have been abandoned, etc. It's all
kind of a mess right now.

I might even be convinced to pay for a more bulletproof SSHfs
implementation, FWIW...

Although MacFusion still has the same errors for me, I was able to
connect to my server using the macfuse sshfs binary and the
instructions here:
http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/wiki/MACFUSE_FS_SSHFS

Maybe that will help out some people while MacFusion is getting fixed.
Perhaps it also helps troubleshooting to know that this doesn't appear
to be a macfuse or ssh problem for me.

I have an easy workaround while macfusion isn't working.

You can still use its native sshfs binary to mount up your remote
systems.
Do this:

# mkdir /Volumes/foo
# /Applications/Macfusion.app/Contents/PlugIns/sshfs.mfplugin/Contents/
Resources/sshfs-static 'user'@'host':'mount_point' /Volumes/foo/

hope this helps ;)

FWIW, I also have this problem following an update to SL 10.6.3 --
empty MacFusion window, and "+" button doesn't work. Command line
sshfs does work with the binary sshfs-static-leopard from above.

Do you know if it's possible to ignore double files with the cli
binary?
