Pardon me for being direct, but are you new to Mac enterprise admin in an .edu?  If so check out this older page on Magic Triangle: http://books.google.com/books?id=yIrvTUC2INoC&lpg=PA350&ots=9SljMeFRA....  MXC can do a lot for you without scripts and also deliver scripts when you need it to.  If this is old news please disregard.
