I have a user (an executive level) that has all of his contacts from his last job on his iphone. It was setup as an exchange account which is not active anymore and was setup at a different company. The phone is not really synced to any computer at the moment.
The phone has been setup to sync to our exchange server and has a new account setup for it. Is there a way to transfer those contacts out of the old exchange account into the new.
I want to proceed with caution as someone at their last job lost all of their contact and a temp had to be hired to type them all back in.
If i connect their phone to her new mac laptop. can i start syncing it to that laptop?? Or will it want to do an erase and sync. I know things get confusing when going from one laptop to another.
Well, if you don't mind sending them one at a time, going into the Contacts app and clicking the "share contact" button will attach the selected contact into an MMS message or an email message.

Before you experiment too much, you might want to look at the iPhone app called "bump". It allows you to share contacts with other devices. You could at least get them all to another device in case you run into issues while syncing. Later, "bump" them back if needed.

I've never used it, but there is an iPhone app (paid) called Contacts Tool. It claims to be able to export your address book as LDIF, CSV and more. If it works as advertised (and if it supports exporting of the cached Exchange contacts) that might solve the problem. David

Yes, but wear boxing gloves, 'cause that could be a lot of bumping

Yep, you can. iPhone Backup Extractor (http://supercrazyawesome.com/) in combination with pretty much any tool that can read sqlite databases is all you really need to extract/recover/archive the contacts from your phone.

If they can still install an application from the app store, look at EXPORT CONTACTS. I used it on our iPhone to back up and pull out the contacts. If runs a mini web server on the phone and you can download your contacts in different formats.

You need to remember that the underlying technology for syncing contacts is "Activesync". By design it suppose NOT allow you to copy the contacts off the iPhone unless it can authenticate with the exchange server. At the Apple store for instance when a Genius tries to copy contacts from an iPhone to a replacement phone, the device they use fails if it's trying to copy exchange contacts.
I think the 2 apps that were mentioned work well - phone view and contacts tool.

Go to each contact on the phone, and "share contact" by email.... Just add your new email account first so it sends out the individual vCards via the new account.
