By Trados jobs, I mean normal Word source files, bilingual RTF source
files, TTX source files and "uncleaned" delivery along with TM files
(Trados format). Did I forget anything ?
After looking around the web, I found that:
1) bilingual RTF and TTX can be handled by Heartsome's XLFEdit (for
version 6, I don't know the name in version 7) and by Maxprograms'
Swordfish. They both convert the files to XLIFF and eventually allow
the translator to use a separate XLIFF editor.
-> what is the difference between XLFEdit 6.3 and Swordfish ? Should I
rather update to HS Suite 7 or get a license for Swordfish ?
-> it does not seem that TTX can be converted to XLIFF in Rainbow, did
I miss something ?
2) "normal" Word source files can be processed in Appletrans to create
bilingual RTF files (se Steven's mail in Appletrans' SIG list).
-> I suppose such files could also be handled by Anaphraseus
+OpenOffice to deliver uncleanded files.
-> With Office 2008 they could be converted to Office 2007 format and
handled by XLFEdit/Swordfish but then it does not seem possible to
save them as uncleanded files.
3) By "uncleaned" delivery, I suppose is meant "translated bilingual
RTF". Is that correct ? If yes, any process that properly handles
bilingual RTF should be able to allow me to deliver uncleaned files...
4) What about the TM delivery ? Is Heartsome's TMX2TXT sufficient to
convert a TMX file to Trados format ? Is there anything else available ?
5) A client asked me if I could handle "XML files", in the context of
TagEditor. I suppose they mean arbitrary XML files with a parameter
file that TagEditor parses to get the translatable and non
translatable parts. Is that correct ? If yes, what can be done to
support such files outside TagEditor ? Is Heartsome's XML Converter of
any use here ?
6) Are there any other tools that I forgot above ?
