Hi folks. I mentioned, during this week's meeting, interest in leading
a study group for Stanford's free, online machine learning class. My
goal for this study group is to help all involved strengthen their
understanding of this subject by filling in each other's gaps in
understanding. I think Einstein's quote, and I paraphrase, "if you
can't explain it, then you don't understand it yourself" sums up the
experience and environment I want to create.

To make this happen I want to get a feel for everyone's availability
and interest in this initiative. I would like to organize in person
meetings and possibly invite others at large through streaming. I
imagine meetings will take between 30 minutes to an hour, and I would
like for them to be held on the weekends sometime. However, we may
find that this won't work very well (large travel times for reward,
attendance issues, etc.) and that a forum might work better. If that's
the case, then I will be the point man in finding the best solution.

If you're interested in being part of this study group, then please
reply. Also please give your preference if you think a personal
meeting or a forum would work better.

Thank you.

I'd be interested. I have studied machine learning in the past,
though it's been 10-15 years since I've really been into it. I haven't
seen any other replies, so it's certainly not practical for just two
people. I imagine the course will be more of a refresher for me, and I
probably won't take it too seriously if it turns out to be fairly basic.

Yeah Nathan,
I'ld be interested. I would prefer forum due to time constraints.

It seems that everyone I've talked to prefers a forum to discuss the
class. I'll be starting a separate google group today and sending out
invites. I don't want to clutter LVL1 group with ML questions if it
gets busy.
