When I was active in Hot Air Ballooning saw one of these cluster balloons take off. The pilot was using a hang gliding harness attached to the balloons similar to the ones on this web site. He had bags of water for ballast. When he was ready to land, he would pull down on of the balloons and pop it with a knife. He flew 60+ miles that day.

Hardest part of the flight was his crew starting at 4am filling up his balloons. I was not part of that crew, was crew chief for Humpty Dumpty.
