Is there a rice cooker available?

If not, I can assist with cooking of plain white rice (How much ya need)

If you are going to use some “other” kind of rice… well… here’s my cooking method:

Will the other rice work with this method?   If so, I can come by the space (Monday?) and pick up the rice, cook it, and bring it to the Tue Meeting….

There has been some discussion but no solid plan on rice for dinner Tuesday; I think I need to appeal to Raj for an answer on "how much?" so we know how much to make.  Additionally it may be appropriate to seek out a specific type of rice for this meal; suggestions?

Jenny has offered to bring some rice and loan a cooker I believe.  I cannot recall if anyone else did but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm forgetting other offers...

I have a rice cooker, but you'll never see it down there.  Someone would use it to melt lead and make it unfit for human consumption, lol.

Well if it comes in for just an evening and leaves with you after the meeting the risks of that are slim...

It may do to have a space for kitchen related/food-safe storage where nothing non-food-safe can be done with anything therein.

I'll be in Boston this week anyway, so I wouldn't be able to bring it in.  In terms of proportions, I always just do 2 cups of water for every cup of rice, but I cut back a little on the water to make it firmer.

I have a 5 or 10 cup (can't remember which) Zojirushi rice cooker that we can bring.  If you just want white rice I can bring some Kokuho Rose sushi rice to cook in it.

Sounds good!  Too much rice is not a bad thing and far better than "not enough rice."

I had hoped I would get some feedback on how many people to cook for, but that never materialized, so I'm going to just guesstimate.  I was thinking of making enough for about 20 people to eat 8 ounces each.  If there's more demand, we can cut the portion size.  But since I have nothing else to go on, I think this sounds reasonable.  I have no idea how much rice that would necessitate, though.

Okay, sorry everyone, but I'm going to have to postpone the chicken curry for a different date.  The Central KY Inventor's Council's featured speaker tomorrow is a patent attorney.  I typically skip the open meetings, but being able to speak with a patent attorney for free is hard to pass up!

OK; Dinner is in a lurch now...  So...

I have a back-up plan!!  But before I announce that plan and get started on it; anyone else want to rise to the occasion?

Sorry everyone, but they only announced the speaker today, so I had no idea.

So with my dear friend Raj once again distracted by some trollop with a law degree on patents (oh look something shiny!!) I'm falling back on a back-up dinner plan: Sloppy Joes!  Anyone want to contribute by bringing on buns (for example) or something else?  We could use a side-dish or two.  Desserts are always popular!  If you don't want to cook but don't mind bringing something you can coordinate with me and I'll see if it's something I can do...  So, what do you all think??

Blenster

PS Much love to Raj, of course; I'm only teasing my dear friend...  :-D  I understand; he's got a unique opportunity and is wise to grab it!  We'll reschedule the curry for another meeting and look forward to it all the more for the increased anticipation!  No one should feel guilty if their plans change when it comes to chipping in for dinner; after all it's just an added extra we're doing to help engage the social atmosphere and build camaraderie amongst our amazing group.  :-)

It was totally worth it.  The attorney gave an awesome *detailed* presentation without the usual generic fluff that anyone can find on the USPTO website.  His analysis on what changes in March 2013 with the travesty that is the "America Invents Act" was very helpful.  And, much to my delight, he actually answered specific questions.  Instead of the usual B.S. about "Well, I don't know about the specifics of your situation, so you'll need to contact a qualified attorney...", he took the time to answer everyone's questions with thoughtful, detailed responses.  He's also one of the rare folks who not only prosecutes (writes) patents, he also litigates them, so his perspective was particularly valuable.

I'll make it up to everyone.  Chicken curry for some, miniature American flags for others!
