I would just like to thank all the supporting members and community leaders for both the successful Code Louisville and Kentucky Science Center Engineers week events. If it wasn't for a larger group initiative based around LVL1 non of this would have been possible. Good work people.

I missed the Code Louisville event (sorry!) but my sons and I were there for the KSC event and it was very nicely done and well received; people seemed to really like what we had to show.  The steam tornado was easily 4+ feet tall and the 3D printers were capturing the imagination of those who saw them.  I'm very proud to be associated with such fine promoters of science and engineering in our community.

Yes, I missed the hackathon, but the KSC event was hugely successful. It was hard to equal walking into to a fire breathing pony and 30ft tall balloon, but LVL1 did it again this year. LVL1 and UofL USLI rocketry team totally killed it. For the second year in a row, LVL1 and its associated projects upstaged all corporate partner events. On Friday, there were 800 kids on field trips but Lexmark was begging for traffic. All of them were over with the Rocketeers makin' rockets. On Saturday, we had 1100 people. Kids loved "Steve" the pimpin' powerwheels racer and adults talked a lot about the 3D scanner and printers, but lots of people had their own favorites. I even met one guy who was new to LVL1, went to the hackathon, then was so impressed he came down to KSC to see what LVL1 was doing.

KSC's previous one-day melon destruction record was 6. On Saturday, 50 melons were destroyed by 50 kids using only their not-completely-developed brains. It generated lots of media requests and ranks as the single biggest mess I've ever seen made at the science center. It also marks the second year in a row LVL1 projects have abused the poor Foucault pendulum. Last year was the WhiteStar deflation whacking the wire, this year was melon chunks blasting into the pegs. Should be a goal for next year: disturb the pendulum.

The big thing for science museums right now seems to be the whole maker thing. When my bosses go to conferences, they always come back and tell me stories about how people asked them about LVL1.

So great job and big thanks to everyone! And apologies for any bureaucratic or marketing irritations.

It was lots of fun! Thanks for coordinating all of this Joseph.

The honeydews had an impressive blast radius.

I'm glad to hear we have risen from top 5 messiest Sci Center events to #1.

That's my personal rank. The garbage can full of water is often brought up, but in my opinion water is wet not messy.

Also, yeah Honeydews! Also, very loud and less sticky. Plus the faces drawn on them were more visible.

Yes!  Congratulations to all!  I'm sad that I had to miss the Science Center this year, but we had a blast at the Hackathon.  Most of the people who showed up had never been to the space before, and many expressed interest in returning!  We generated a lot of good will in both the local software community, and among folks in Government, and a lot of people had a lot of fun!

I think this picture about summarizes the win from the hackathon: http://gallery.mailchimp.com/cacd191d3a3a7ae3334a26b4e/images/tumblr_mip6h1AQKf1s4mpsuo7_12803d3616.jpg
