So its Derby time and for the first time in my life I am going to the bed races tonight. If LVL1 was to participate in a derby event this would probably be the one.

Grab four of your co-workers, build a bed on wheels, decorate it, dress in a ridiculous costume—and then race. That pretty much sums up the Kentucky Derby Festival Bed Races. Each year, thousands of enthusiasts gather to cheer on more than 40 teams, while on-air personalities from WAVE TV anchor the live coverage from every angle, from the crowd to the pits.

Entry Fee: $130/team (includes 5 participant t-shirts and 5 collectible participant pins)

Theme: Now That’s Entertainment!

 

Hosted by 107.7 The Eagle personalities, the awards ceremony recognizes the following winners:

  • Fastest Course Times: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
  • Best Decoration and Entertainment: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
  • Cone Eater Award
  • Best Decorated “Now That’s Entertainment!”
  • Most Entertaining
  • People’s Choice Award: For $1 a vote, fans can vote for their favorite bed. Half of the proceeds are donated to the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation and the other half is donated to the 501C3 charity chosen by the winning bed team.

I noticed this part: " the other half is donated to the 501C3 charity chosen by the winning bed team" and couldn't help recalling that we're a 501C3 ourselves...  ;-P

I'm guna go check it out to tonight if anyone is interested. It might be worth building a racing bed. Course it would mean we have a bed in the space. Still unsure if this would break our bylaws. It could be our way of getting some derby eye play time.
