Hi.

Working on a web app/project, and need to talk to someone who's
actually familiar with the nuances of getting a running app that's
running at scale (1000+) users.

I'm looking to get a detailed undersatanding of the issues required
for having/running a working commerce app, ie and app where revenue is
exchanged!.

At the same time, I'd like to pick your brain on db
redundancy/security/dev/update/rollback issues, along with cloud
hosting, etc..

So, thanks in advance for any help, or pointers to resources/companies
I should talk with.

Thanks!

Hi Bruce,

If by "app" you mean a smartphone app -- then I can't help with that part, no personal experience there.  But if you mean a webapp as in something that runs on the web, I'd be happy to talk with you.  "Scale" depends on a lot more factors than just number of users...  but one way or another, if by "scale" you mean in the low 1000's, yes I have experience there.  I've dealt with credit card transactions, yearly security audits, db volume issues, server clustering, frontend/UI work as well as backend processes and custom web services, cloud hosting, etc.  That's what I've done 40 hours a week for years, except for a brief stint as manager of a team of folks doing that.  :-)  I actually just joined a startup this past July, so in the last few months I've been revisiting all these issues again for myself (since we started from scratch).

Do you want to meet up at a Tuesday night LVL1 meeting sometime?  I'm not a LVL1 member, but I've been meaning to go to a meeting to check it out -- they seem like a great bunch.  :-)  I'd be happy to have some initial discussions with you there, or we can work something else out if you'd rather.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the reply. I myself have never attended a lvl1 function,
although I've stopped by a few times, and no one has ever been there!

I'm looking to get a much better understanding of how to take a
webapp, and provision it to be able to run on the "web" as well as
mobile. This includes of course all the rest of the backend functions,
including security/db replication, application update, etc...

I'm looking to actually get into as much depth as possible to
whiteboard the issues, and basically build a solid framework of what
needs to occur.

If you want. shoot me your cell, and we can talk, arrange a meeting time, etc!

Thanks
