A very large insurance local insurance company purchased fully
assembled ThingOMatic and wants someone to teach them how to use it.
They are willing to make a contribution to LVL1 in exchange for help.

I am assuming that they would prefer someone that could available
during normal daytime work hours.

This could be a good way to spread the news about LVL1. Please help.

I've owned, assembled, and fine tuned 7 Thing-O-Matics, so you might say I know a thing or two. I can't help locally, but somehow over the web would work. But I'm sure someone else local has the same knowledge. Let me know if not.

Mr. Cox, thanks for your quick response. If someone local doesn't pop
up, I will offer internet help. (Unless I miss my guess, I think face-
to-face might be needed in this case.)

That works for me. I'll be in touch.

I've successfully built a piratebox from a TP-Link MR3020. Works like a
usb 'deaddrop', only wireless. I thought it might work out well to have
one at the workshop, to keep the questionable data out of reach of the
Internet as well as a measure of plausible deniability. Perhaps one that
can be reached from the front sidewalk, with a sizable USB drive, and
plugged into a night sensor so that it won't be available during regular
business hours.

I believe that plausible deniability is no more now that you've posted
it on a google group. ;)

Ok, followed Links, got lost.
Can you tl;dr what is it, how do we use it?

It allows for anonymous file sharing.  It's basically a wireless router and plug-type linux box that sets up a small wireless network.  Anyone can log into it and use a web interface to store and share files with others.

the piratebox is a wifi device that acts as a disconnected Internet. Wifi
devices can connect to it, upload and download files via a web browser,
and talk to each other (if the settings are right & devices use apps
intended to do so) by using the piratebox as a kind of repeater. Ad hoc
without rooting devices. The piratebox does not log connections or bridge
to the Internet, intentionally. It's like the usb deaddrops project, only
via wifi.

Why not just leave your net open, and paint a W in a circle on the sidewalk...
No one can say WHO was on, or WHEN...
(specially if we have all logging turned off.....)

How do you keep the kiddie porn off the thing?

Seems like sharing a tube of chapstick to me.

1) Portablity

2) security from wan side observation

3) lack of Internet service costs.

I don't really have a reasonable answer to that question.

Interesting analogy. After pointing out the kiddie porn thing, and then
the chapstick analogy; my childhood memories or sharing chapstick with my
older sister feel a bit icky.

The only respectable answer to that question would be to grant everyone
delete rights, but I don't really know how to do that.

Still looking for help for a major insurance company that bought a
Thing-O-Matic. Anyone willing to volunteer, maybe even for a
consulting fee? And yes, Pat, you will be amused.

It always interesting to note how many people want to comment on how/
why/who, none of which add to the sincere request for assistance, but
no one wants to step up and offer to "do".

I shall pass the word along that I could not find anyone in our group
that would be willing to help.

That would probably confuse them GREATLY
Since I talk to them today, and have a meeting planned for Next Wed...
(Between now and then, I need a primer on the Makerbot... but that's for another thread)
But, suffice to say, I am on it...
