1) Will anyone be available at LVL1 from 5-6:30pm tonight (Thurs) to show me how to use the laser cutter?
2) Also is there a preferred source for 1/8" plywood or fiberboard in Louisville or Jeffersonville (Michael's, Hobby Lobby)?
3) Do I need my own laptop or just the attached file?
Goal is to cut the attached Raspberry Pi case from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:29456
I read the equipment wiki for it, but it would be nice to get hands on help, especially with the laser focusing.
Thanks

Oh that's a nice case design!

1) I *might* be at the space tonight around 6pm, but it depends on
childcare so I can't guarantee anything. I will chime in here again
once I know one way or the other.

2) I get 1/8" plywood from Woodcraft here in town. It's the only place
I've found material that thin in large enough sheets, barring ordering
materials from the internet. I've never found plywood in useable
dimensions at Hobby Lobby.

3) All you need is the attached file. But certainly get someone
familiar with the laser to walk you through it the first time. It's
not difficult to operate, but improper use can destroy the laser so
extra precaution is warranted.

I use the 1/8" Revel plywood from Michaels.  It is kind of expensive.  2 passes at 30% speed and 100% power will go through it.

I echo Brian's response. I didn't think the prices were that bad. About $4-$5 for 24"x12"x1/8"

I'm also interested in learning to use the laser cutter, so I'll also stop by a bit after 6pm tonight, in hopes of somebody being around to show us how to use it.

I don't have any material on hand to cut/etch, and won't be able to make it out to pick something up before stopping by tonight, so whats the likelihood of me finding material around the space to learn on?

Chances are high.  There is scrap material littered around the laser, and anything under the stairs in the basement is fair game, as well.

I'll probably be at the space sometime between 6-6:30, and will gladly
show folks how to laser. Note: I have a couple of things I need to
laser as well, so it sounds like there will be a queue.

I will be there a little before 6 hopefully, I'm going to the Bioengineering talk by Stuart Williams at the Louisville Free Public library at 7pm, so hopefully I can get it cut before 6:45 (or at least get trained before then to come back afterward).  Is anyone else planning on going to that?
