Kre8now.com is a new Makerspace in Lexington currently reviewing several spaces in the 3000-7000 square foot range for a community workshop.
Where like minded individuals gather to collaborate on various projects in order to learn from each other, share knowledge, and promote community and economic development. Our members are a mix of local artists, engineers, tradesmen, designers, inventors, business people, educators and economic developers. Kre8Now Makerspace provides its members and the surrounding community with equipment, tools, supplies, and classes to help build almost anything you can imagine!
There is room in Lexington for more than one hackerspace or makerspace. Our central idea is to provide the tools, facilities, fabrication technologies, and Educators to people of all ages and backgrounds. We are makers that want to help other people make things. We will also be an incubator helping others create new business oppurtunities with our help and facilities.
We are looking towards a June opening date and are currently meeting every Thursday evening at the Tolly Ho Restaurant in lexington.
Any thoughts on opening another Makerspace somewhere near Elizabethtown? There is a market that closed down at 1357 and 31W that would make a fantastic space, since it used to house a grocery store, there is ample parking, refrigeration, heat, light, and kitchen facilities (from the deli). It is at a major intersection almost to downtown E-town, and it is for sale or lease. It is only one floor (unless there is an upstairs where the offices used to be) and can be divided into different areas for different projects and types of projects. I've not checked out pricing or whether it can be had for use as a community location, but I can if you think it would be something the group would be interested in. I'm sure we could find plenty of folks down here around the military base that would be interested - if they knew about it. (I can handle telling them about it through their Public Affairs Office...)
I think this space would be large enough and convenient enough to 65 and 31W which both make it easily accessible.
Let me know if you think this is a good idea and I'll do some checking for you. BTW, it's not far from Habitat for Humanity Restore, and a very large Peddlers Mall.
