I'm cleaning up some of the servers and will be shutting some things down that aren't being used and replacing other stuff with lower powered more environmentally friendly (cheaper) servers.

One of the projects would be to setup a file server that would be mounted on every computer (media server, makerbot, laser cutter, etc).  This would also facilitate the move to a FOG system where the computers are wiped nightly to help eliminate software rot and malware.  The server I want to use is named TheOracle.  Does anyone know what this is and if I can wipe it?

TLDR:
Who setup TheOracle and when can I delete it?

Is that game server still alive?

If so, is it still running the Minecraft server?

On another note: Anyone interested in, or “mind” If I set up BOINC on the servers?

Minecraft server has been gone for months and the hardware was picked up to do something labeled web development, no idea who is using it.

Our servers aren't that powerful, I think the cost of powering the server would outweigh the little amount of work these servers can do.  We have a couple G4's with decent specs but even those can be outrun by a Core 2 Duo.  We're trying to reduce waste by shutting down servers that aren't getting used and replacing existing servers with less power hungry equipment so I think a BOINC server would be a step in the wrong direction.  As Tim said the minecraft game server has been down and the TF2 game server is kept off except for events like this weekend.

OK

Actually, I was thinking of just using the servers that are kept up all the time. Boinc has a small footprint, and can be set to halt work if ANY external CPU/Disk activity is initiated. As for power… Heck, I have an old Pentium/Win98 box running a copy (along with my home weather station)

Although, I must admit, due to power issues, I am no longer running the gaming computer on boinc, as I used to…
