I've been curious about my sleeping habits lately, mainly regarding
the quality of the sleep I am getting. After discovering the cost of
a sleep study, a google search of DIY sleep study this morning yielded
some interesting results:

Very cool. I had a sleep study about 3 years ago, and that equipment
looks much more comfortable than what I had on me.

There's been a few people at the space recently that would like to see
some experimentation with the OpenEEG project (myself included). I
would love to see enough critical mass on this to see some OpenEEG
experimentation materialize.

I remember seeing a simple Arduino-based pulse oximeter on the web a
couple of months ago. That would be another useful sleep metric.

Just minutes before reading this I was looking up a snore alarm
circuit.

You would think sleeping would be the easiest thing to do correctly
but, nooooo.

FWIW: The wakemate got a bad review by endgaget -- the wakemate people even sent over 3 writsbands for them to try out and they had fairly consistently bad results.  Bummer!  A wrist band would certainly be less dorky than a headband.  :-)

I'm wondering if I could build a model size of one of these, and perhaps
use it as an antenna tower.

I'm also interested in the OpenEEG project. I've wanted to build one of these for a few years but haven't been sufficiently motivated yet.

How is this for motivation mark.  If you build one you will get to me electrocute myself in my sleep.

I am reading this with a mountain of enthusiasm because I've always been obsessed with the space elevator concept, but I am wondering about the power requirements on something like this.  I'll have to read more but would love to discuss this in greater detail and will add a section to the electrogravitics forum about this, as I see it very relevant.

To scale down, you will need to source or make 2 magnets, powerful enough to turn thousands of steel bullets on a dime.  Also linear accellerators for both legs. With all that gauss, I think that UPS might want to discuss your antenna's habit of pulling their planes out of the sky

I actually wasn't really set on using a continuous rail gun setup.
Somthing along these lines could be done with just about any mass, but
water would likely have too much friction to work. I'm really just
thinking out loud, wondering if such an 'active structure' could be built
to 200' or so. It could even be a composite kind of structure; perhaps
combining lighter than air bouancy for lift and some kind of active
structure for rigidity to manage crosswinds. A tethered balloon antenna
is easy, but can't maintain station in any kind of wind. Perhaps a blimp
based repeater, with diydrone maintaining it's station.
