just seen this on hackaday which gave me a idea for making my own video
goggles for FPV , wondering if anyone wants to help design some or can
give me a reason why thats a bad idea ? i know i can get some
goggles from china for about 80$ but i see camcorders in goodwill for way
less then that ,
sounds kinda trivial to me , two crt viewfinders connected to video
output of receiver mounted in some kinda headgear
I can tell you from experience helping someone hack together some video goggles out of a pair of small CRTs that your eyes can't properly focus on a screen that close unaided. I tried, and man it will give you a headache real quick. The commercial goggles have a pair of lenses in them which correct this.
With that said, I agree that they are the only non-trivial part of the setup. If you were to figure out the necessary specs on such a pair of lenses and where to acquire them, then I think you'd be good to go. Said friend and I keep talking about coming to a LVL1 Tuesday meeting, if you're interested in seeing what he did maybe that'll be enough to get us off our duffs and over to the space.

TY , you answered one of the main concerns i had with the idea , eye
focusing an it causing headaches ,.
ive noticed the lens in front of commercial goggles , although ive
never had a set to play with an look at with digi calipers an stuff ,
i wonder if you could use plexiglass and sand / polish it into a lens ,
one thing that makes this mailing list so cool is the fact it puts you
in touch with others that have tried an failed or had success
making/hacking projects like this ,, way cool you have tried this
allready id love to see your experiment , sounds cool !
i wanna say yeah man bring it down an come to a meeting that would
be cool ,, just hard for me to say ill be there also , either way i bet
there is others there that would also enjoy seeing it ! dont count me
out though if you come i maybe able to make it too :)
