What is the expected date when v1.6.5 arrives?
What kernels (patchless clients) will be supported?
Thank you,

We don't try to predict release dates. I can tell you that RC3 just
went to QA.
> What kernels (patchless clients) will be supported?
From the lustre/Changelog:
* Support for kernels:
2.6.5-7.311 (SLES 9),
2.6.9-67.0.7.EL (RHEL 4),
2.6.16.54-0.2.5 (SLES 10),
2.6.18-53.1.14.el5 (RHEL 5),
2.6.18.8 vanilla (kernel.org)
2.6.22.14 vanilla (kernel.org)
* Client support for unpatched kernels:
(see http://wiki.lustre.org/index.php?title=Patchless_Client)
2.6.16 - 2.6.22 vanilla (kernel.org)
Specifically for patchless clients on vendor kernels, SLES10 and RHEL5.

The 1.6.5 release is undergoing internal testing, and we hope to release
it in the next couple of weeks, but this is subject to successful testing
(or there is no point in doing the testing...). You can always grab it
from CVS if you are interested to see the current state and give it a spin.

Is there any particular reason why the 2.6.18's were removed from your copy?
Jim
Thank you for you answer.
I think it's a bit old version, so for example FC8 won't be supported?

My bad... I accidentally deleted the 2.6.18 RHEL5 line, thinking it was
the 2.6.18-vanilla line. Don't worry, RHEL5 is still in the supported list.
The reason we've removed 2.6.18.8 vanilla kernel from the "Supported" list
is because we are not doing testing on this kernel, and while the patches
still exist in this release it is a "legacy" vanilla kernel and we generally
only support a single vanilla kernel at one time. Most of our customers
use either the RHEL or SLES kernel, but working with newer kernels helps
keep the Lustre code ready for changes coming down the pipes.
Unfortunately, 2.6.24 is NOT that vanilla kernel, though we will likely
begin work on this. The constantly shifting and undocumented changes in
the kernel make updates a task in reverse engineering, and there isn't a
huge amount of demand for the latest vanilla kernels.
Yesterday Red Hat released RHEL5U2 with OFED 1.3 support built in. Is
there a plan to provide a Lustre patched kernel release of this, in
coordination with Lustre 1.6.5, so that there is a prebuilt version of
Lustre that would support OFED 1.3?
Thanks,
Bob

Neat.

This RHEL5U2 kernel is too late for 1.6.5 which is already in QA and
being tested. Don't fear though, as long as the testing of it pans out,
our 1.6.5 release will be made with OFED 1.3's kernel-ib RPM and Lustre
built with it.
Interesting to note however in that Changelog we posted here:

We don't list the RHEL5 kernel at all. I believe that is an omission.
I will look into it.

Must have been a mistake. The ChangeLog in 1.6.5rc4 is listing:
* Support for kernels:
2.6.5-7.311 (SLES 9),
2.6.9-67.0.7.EL (RHEL 4),
2.6.16.54-0.2.5 (SLES 10),
2.6.18-53.1.14.el5 (RHEL 5),
2.6.22.14 vanilla (kernel.org)
* Client support for unpatched kernels:
(see http://wiki.lustre.org/index.php?title=Patchless_Client)
2.6.16 - 2.6.22 vanilla (kernel.org)
Which as you can see, does include the RHEL5 kernel.
Cheers,
