There is a session at MAX this year covering Alchemy and being
presented by Scott Peterson. Here's hoping there is a new code drop
coming!

Leveraging Adobe Alchemy to Optimize Games and Applications

Be sure to attend this session if you want to know more about how to
use Adobe Alchemy in real projects. Alchemy enables the conversion of
C and C++ code into high-performance ActionScript bytecode for use in
Adobe Flash and Adobe AIR applications. From reusing existing code to
getting the most out of your Flash technology-based game or
application by using C/C++ routines, Alchemy gives developers the
chance to leverage their most performance-critical code.

If true, maybe my interested in Lua Alchemy will be rekindled. I
stopped working on it out of disgust with Adobe not maintaining or
releasing the project via open source. Then I got busy... then a
baby...

I've got Lua-Alchemy working alive and well in a visualization product
I'm developing.

Sounds like a good news! I hope for the code update too, but even without it, any attention of the Adobe to the Alchemy is great!

Incidentally, if anyone's interested, I have a fairly decent As3Object
metatable library that works GREAT with Lua-Alchemy as well as a
system library that makes use of co-routines for yielding to async
operations (like webservices and what-not).

Thank you for sharing! It is always a great thing to hear the project is used!

Care to share a link? ;-)

Alexander.

P. S. Robert was sharing the news about the underlying technology we build upon, the Adobe Alchemy. Lua Alchemy, luckily, does not need resurrection, it is alive and well (but maybe the development process is a bit sleepy — any help welcome)!

I'll tweak it for general-purpose use and distribute on the morrow.

I'm porting one of the text-quests game engine, written using C and
Lua to AS3 using lua-alchemy.
I've extended lua-alchemy a bit.
If you are interested, i can share code and post link to the project.

Thanks for sharing! Looks interesting!

I've created a wiki page to list projects which use Lua Alchemy:

http://code.google.com/p/lua-alchemy/wiki/WhoUsesLuaAlchemy

When you're ready, I'll be happy to add your project there :-)

Adobe is definitely resurrecting Alchemy:

They are putting commercial effort in it and will have a paid version with free for commercial use.

They say in the press release how they were engaging developers.  I haven't been on the Adobe Labs Alchemy forums in a while so maybe things changed, but I hardly call not releasing updates in two years and ignoring the forums "engaging developers".  If it is, I'd hate to be ignored.

I'm very happy to see Lua Alchemy alive and well.  Alexander and I put a great deal of effort into it... I just got disgusted with Adobe and busy with other things while Alexander has carried on and done an amazing job.
