At the 4x4 Community Forum GTG at Gariep Dam last month, I damaged my Defender’s rear door and my fibreglass trailer, which are both insured comprehensively under 1 policy.
Insurance assessor has come back to state that they must use a second hand door, and has indicated 2 excesses will be applicable – a separate claim for each vehicle. What are your thoughts on them specifying that a second hand door must be used? Can they legally do that? I mean, why would they replace the door on 1 vehicle with a new one and then specify a second hand one on my vehicle? I am not being charged a “second hand” premium on my policy. What happens if the door has internal rust or something that only manifests in a year or more?
Needless to say, once this debacle is over, I will be changing insurer!
