The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) just released
Version 2 of the Common Education Data Standards (CEDS).

Most relevant to LRMI is the Learning Standards data domain, entities,
and elements designed to work with LRMI's CompetencyObject. (Note:
CEDS recognizes the alternate name "Competency".)

Credit goes to this LRMI group for helping define how competencies are
included CEDS. Thank you!!!
(Special thanks to Stuart Sutton for some 11th hour feedback on the
data model, to Kurt Bollacker for checking compatibility with the
Applied Minds learning maps work, and Diny Golder and ASN team for
its pioneering work that was one of several key reference points for
defining the standards.)

All the details are here: http://ceds.ed.gov

For some context, the following are the adopted definitions for the
data domain and entities covered in V2:

Learning Standards: The data domain that includes entities and
elements that define learner competencies established in learning
standards documents, that may be adopted as expectations by education
agencies, and may exist within the structure of a taxonomy or
competency-based pathways.

Learning Standard Document - A collection of learning standard items,
typically arranged in a hierarchical structure or classification
scheme, reflecting expectations of learner competencies within a
single subject area covering one or more levels. (examples: Head Start
Child Outcomes Framework, Common Core State Standards for Mathematics,
Accountability Criteria for National Health Care Cluster Foundation
Standards)

Learning Standards Item - Content that either describes a specific
competency (learning objective) or describes a grouping of
competencies within the taxonomy of a Learning Standards Document.

----
The work will continue to refine and extend CEDS... looking forward to
continued collaboration with this group.
