It looks like a graffiti crew went through our neighborhood and Upper Haight. I reported it to both Captains at Park and Northern Station. This is the third time in several months these crews have gone through our neighborhood. Both Captains are asking people if they saw anything suspicious? They would like our neighborhood to report/call the police if you see anything? Unfortunately, I think they do it very early in the AM when most of us are sleeping?
Thea is correct, if you and your neighbors can paint it out the next day it will slow them down. They usually come back through the neighborhood to look at their work. One merchant on Haight heard a conversation of three men in their late 20's talking about which tags were theirs on certain buildings and the fact some of them were still wet. He decided then, he would paint out the graffiti right away just to piss the taggers off when they came back to admire their work.
As far as the City painting over the tag, not going to happen unless it's gang related. The City will post your building and the owner has 10 days to paint it. If they do not comply in 10 days (the building will be posted by the City) the City will paint it and charge you the work.
The City is responsible for any graffiti on City property, bus shelters, poles, utility boxes. Actually the City is doing such a good job in promptly removing the graffiti from City property the taggers have shifted their focus to private property.
