Hi,

Sorry I couldn't stay for the whole meeting - baby was getting restless & in
my experience that doesn't give me long to get her home before a meltdown. :-}
It was good to see so many people there & it sounds like there are some great
ideas coming out already!

Sarah, please drop me a line & let me know what you need me to do about the
bank account. I don't have much paperwork for it but you're welcome to what I
have! (I don't mind remaining a signatory for the account if necessary but I'd
feel happier if it was someone who was likely to be able to get to the meetings
etc a bit more easily...)

BTW I see in the minutes there's a point about the list of ideas from the
original LCEO meeting -- that list is on the google groups site; however the
documents there are no longer easily accessible as Google are phasing out the
ability to store pages/documents on a groups site. They can be downloaded as a
zip file until *August 31st 2011* so we should probably be thinking about an
alternative solution for a website if we still want/need one! If we decided
that we *do* need some kind of website (as opposed to, say, having a page on
one of the existing sites for local low-carbon groups) my suggestion would
be that we get something simple and free like a hosted Wordpress blog (you
can have simple static pages as well as blog posts) -- that way nobody needs
to worry about paying for or renewing web hosting etc., and we can let as
few or as many members edit the site or post to the blog as we like. (Just my
thoughts -- feel free to ignore...)

Cheers

A Wordpress blog sounds like a very good idea. (we use one for cyclox. We
host our own but the free hosted wordpress.com ones would be perfect for
LCEO).

As Janet suggests, would a page on an existing low-carbon groups site be as
easy - if yes, that would be even better.

Best wishes
Tristram

WordPress is a good way forward. It's easy, fast, very well
established, supports multiple users and roles.

Does anyone own this WordPress blog? http://lceo.wordpress.com/ It's
been reserved by someone - perhaps an LCEO member?

Other options are:

http://lowcarboneastoxford.wordpress.com/
http://lowcarbonoxford.wordpress.com/

These URLs are hard to read and hard to remember, so I recommend we
register a domain name (£3 per year) and pay WordPress $17 per year to
map our domain to that URL. Possible URLs include:

www.lceo.org.uk
www.lowcarboneastoxford.org.uk

lceo.org.uk is easier to type and remember. I can set it up. Shall I
go ahead?

These are the other 2 low carbon Oxford websites:

www.lowcarbonwestoxford.org.uk
www.lcon.org.uk

we could (also) use this:

seems to have lots of useful tools and we'd be linked up with other directly related initiatives.

I was thinking about the stall for this Sunday's Carnival. At the moment we
don't have much planned for it, so it'll look a little bare. I thought of
bringing some items of the type we may have in a 'Gadget Library' - the
computer plug that turns off the peripherals, a meter showing how much an
appliance is using, a similar item that logs the power usage in a form that
can be downloaded and use in a spreadsheet, and a display that shows power
usage in a whole house. I'll put together a notice about each one. If anyone
else has something similar it would be useful. Anyone know a way of
monitoring gas usage?

Craig - does the stand have electricity? I doubt it, but no harm in asking.

I also wondered if we could have some so-called eco products on display.
I've got a gadget for the shower ~ can anyone else contribute anything ~
ecokettles and slow-cookers get mentioned, but I don't know what they are,
let alone have one!

I will be at home (42 Hertford Street) on Saturday, if you have anything you
could leave.

Thanks

Christopher

Let's discuss a website overhaul at the next meeting.

If those able to research this can bring along some options thatvwould be great..

Thanks

Energy Share has some useful tools:

1. Download a poster.
2. Post comments.
3. Invite people to join group via email.
4. Apply for an energy grant.

The comments system on Google groups and Facebook is better (threaded,
more admin controls).

I think we should utilise a number of channels and our own permanent
URL.

1. www.lceo.org.uk - our permanent home, communicates our goals,
encourages people to participate and leave their email, provides links
to our Google Groups, Facebook, Twitter and Energy Share pages. It
could run a WordPress blog or it could simply start as good-looking 1
page website.
2. Google Groups
3. Facebook
4. Twitter
5. Energy Share
6. Google Plus (new service, looks promising).

I think we have enough for the stall -

badges, map, sign-up sheet and hopefully some general leaflets (including some from Chris Jardine).

However, if anyone want to bring along anything to 'show and tell' - pictures, gadgets etc. then feel free.

Cheers

Craig

I'd say it's not worth it just for the friendly URLs, to be honest -- in my
experience most people don't remember URLs anyway, they either follow links
from places they know (eg our facebook group, the mailing list, etc) or they
google for it. But I'm prepared to be persuaded if everybody else thinks it's
a good idea! :-)

I agree about url, people will get to us via clicking links and Facebook, tweets. Special url are mainly for giving people confidence they can trust a site when donating money I think.

The main question about web presence is what do we want to say. Essentially what do we want to ask students and landlords to do...and why.
