Note, however, that you *must* join the group before you can post to the
group. See information below on how to do this if you don't already know how
to join a Google Group.

Also note: If you subscribe to this group via the daily digest option and
want to post or reply to a message, do not--I repeat DO NOT--reply to the
digest. Instead, to reply to a message, click on the link in the digest for
the message you'd like to respond to, and then reply via the web interface.
(The purpose of this is that that you (1) don't end up including the entire
digest in your post, and (2) so that you preserve the topic threading.)

If you are a Google Groups member (or want to become one), you can also
manage your subscription via a nice web interface and with a variety of
subscription options by going to

Look for the "M*y membership*" link if you are already logged in, or the "*Sign
in to post*" link if you are not.

If, for some reason, neither of these options work for you, send email to "*
doug*" at "*alum.mit.edu*" and ask him to remove you.

Q. I just want to read this crazy thing on the Web.  I don't want to join
the group!

*A. *That's not a question, but FYI, you don't have to join the group if you
just want to read it. You are free to do all the reading you want via the
Google Group's web forum interface, without having to join.

If, on the other hand, you would like to post messages to the group, then
you *must *join the group. This somewhat onerous requirement is necessary as
an anti-spam measure. This inconvenience is mitigated to some extent by the
fact that when you join you can chose not to receive any emails.  You
achieve this by joining the group with the "No Email" option.  This will
enable you to post messages to your heart's content without having your
email inbox ever bothered by this group's messages.  See the next question
for additional details.
