The common abbreviation for louisiana is 'la' not 'lou'. How is anyone
supposed to guess the existence of a newsgroup lou.general? Very few of
the neworleans.general postings are cross-posted to ms.general, so I
didn't know that group existed either. My guess on that was a miss.*
hierarchy that doesn't exist. My ISP hasn't subscribed yet to the
batonrouge.* hierarchies.
But you have answered important questions, thanks. Folks in lou.general
and ms.general should check these other newsgroups for additional
postings.

automatically tells folk that it is not about New York, Los Angeles, or

take charge of propagating the group. An alt group is not added to
almost all servers without a request from a customer. He must see
that the group is requested on the servers he uses. The proponent
must find and recruit others who will want to post to the group on
their servers. He must post frequently to the new group with
interesting material that will attract and keep new users. A NIMBY
group has no one in charge and quickly fails for lack of propagation
and interest.

with ISC. Having a group name registered at ISC does not mean that
the group will be added automatically to any servers.

shouldn't be created. I disagree in the case for an 'alt.louisiana'
newsgroup, which should be created. Louisiana is a 'hot topic' because of
the hurricane, and a defacto 'alt.louisiana' already exists in terms of
its displaced population. It shouldn't take much to get louisiana posts
to defect from la.general, or for sysops to play ball.
