BRBR: OLOL hopes for future deal with Blue Cross Blue Shield

"Officials with Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center say they
hope a contract agreement can be reached with Blue Cross Blue Shield of
Louisiana to keep the hospital in the insurance network. "Each of our
organizations has an obligation to make the business decisions they
think best for the continued success of their organizations," OLOL CEO
Bob Davidge says in a statement. The current agreement between Blue
Cross and the Franciscan Ministries of Our Lady, which owns OLOL and
several other medical facilities around the state, expires Jan. 31.
After that, Blue Cross customers will not be in the network. Davidge
says OLOL asked Blue Cross for an increase in reimbursement rates to
cover services, but there was a pricing gap. The medical center wanted
to lock in rates for a two-year contract. Blue Cross officials say OLOL
wanted a double-digit increase in rates, which would have too much of an
impact on customer premiums. OLOL says the issue is the shift in medical
costs from underfunded Medicaid and Medicare patients to paying patients
who have private insurance."
