I wish I had know there was a HN group earlier.

Null Space Labs is a new hacker space in downtown LA.

Its just over 2000 sqft and we would be happy to offer you a Saturday
once a month.
Wifi, power drops, projector and screens and all sorts of hackerish
stuff.

No charge, just please clean up after yourselves.

We have some events coming up if you would like to visit.

This Friday at 8PM (June 18th) is the International Lock pick sports
meeting... they are going to do "intro to lock picking" http://locksport.com/
Its only their 2nd meeting here, but if there is enough interest it
will be a reoccurring event.

And next Saturday 7PM (June 26th) is our opening party, all are
welcome.

Cheers,

-M

I actually work out of the CoLoft, which is a co-working space with a great startup scene (there's a couple startups besides for us working out of here). There's also a lot of startup related events hosted here, the TechCrunch LA Meetup was here this past Friday and Startup Weekend was here around a month ago.

There's also Startup Nights ( http://www.meetup.com/LA-Startup-Nights/ ) which happens from 6pm to 2am once or twice a month when a bunch of people come to work on their startups, collaborate, meet...
If you guys are interested, you should sign up for the next one (the one tonight is sold out already). The last one was great.

Hey M,

Can you tell me more about Null Space Labs? What is it about? How
does it work? What types of events do you encourage?

That looks awesome, thanks for the offer! We'll be talking about where to hold our next meetup at this one. I'll be sure to include you guys!

And although it's actually further from me, it's pretty central to everybody.

looks great!

Hi Chris,

A couple years ago I took a tour of various hackerspaces in Europe.
When I got back I wanted to start one here, but I got side tracked by
a new business.

Three years later... Null Space Labs!

Its funded by myself and a couple of core members "key holders" who
have 24hr access to the place. People are welcome to stop by as long
as there is someone to open and close.
We have only been open for 6 weeks, but for the last couple of weeks
there have been people there almost every week night.

We don't really encourage anything, that is to say the lab doesn't
give creative direction.
In the last 6 weeks we have had people working on:

beverage cooling contraption (for fun)
target sensor (for new business)
discovered flaw in bi-lock contacted manufacture, info to be release Aug 1st
etc...

Also have had some classes... we did intro to Arduino (that was very fun)
How to solder (even had a soldering comic.
http://www.tvbgone.com/images/mfaire/soldercomic.jpg )

We also do some purely social things.
We meet up on the 2nd Thursday of the month to do Art Walk
http://www.downtownartwalk.org/
Last week some people got together for a True blood marathon.
Yesterday some of us got there early to watch the Laker game before
our normal Tuesday meeting.

All this is going on while we are still working on infrastructure. We
are finding we need more ethernet drops, we want to put lights on
their own switches, build more tables etc...
Also working on better method than foursquare to show when someone is around.

Its a work in progress.... thats probably not gonna change any time
soon, and thats sort of what I like about it.

Hope ya can swing by.

Cheers,

-M

That is awesome dude.  I'll def. swing by.  I was at artwalk last week doing research for my other project, a food truck.
