I think you need to do it the other way around.
When you "tick" the items, you are actually indicating that you have memorized them. Then the program WILL NOT show them in the next study session.
You need to uncheck the check boxes of those items you want to study. (You can select them all and do "Command-K") When I say "select", I mean click on the text. The entire line will turn dark blue. If you hold down the Command key when you select additional items, you can pick and choose which items you want to study. Further, if you use the shift key, you can select large blocks of questions.
Finally, it sounds to me like you wish to rapidly and intensely study a particular area. I suggest you go to:
-View Menu
-Select Deck Preferences (there is also an icon in the tool bar)
-Make sure that "Memorization" (as opposed to Card Sides, Fonts, Advanced) is selected
-Change the type of memorization to "Score"
-The presets are probably fine, but you can adjust the numbers if you want to.
The "Score" form of memorization allows you to go over the same questions over and over and over again, only removing them from the list after you've gotten them right 3 (or whatever) times in a row. Very useful when you need to learn something in a short period of time.
If I've missed the mark or if you have any more questions feel free to contact directly at
