Hi all,
Zhang Le has asked a good question. Someone else has complained to me
that this list will divide the community. Why do we need this list
even when we have lemote forum, olph forum and debian mail list
already.
Well, firstly I want to say this list's name is loongson-dev. That
means it is intend to include all the information about loongson based
systems, fuloong, yeeloong and gdium, maybe other systems in the
future. There is no such list or forum of this purpose except lemote
forum. Lemote forum wanted to be a place for developer, but it has
been polluted by so many useless information such as Chinese program
language and so on and no one has made a good administration of the
lemote forum. So if it is not a good place for discussing loongson
development issues there, why not find a new one? And that's why I
created this list yesterday, our new home without annoying debate of
Chinese language programing and future alpha and etc. I meant to unit
most of the developers of original lemote forum to a new big
professional community, not to divide them.
Secondly, there is really no big conflicts between this list and other
ones. People can discuss olph in olph forum AND in this list, as they
want. But people can only post the thread about yeeloong in this list,
not the olph one, right? I know many people, especially Chinese
hackers, have fuloong and yeeloong while they do NOT have gdium yet.
And this is the place for them. About the gnewsense-dev and debian
dev, of course people can talk about issues about gnewsense and debian
in their list while others in this list.
Thirdly, although we already have lemote forum and olph forum in our
hand, but I really know some people prefer maillist rather than forum.
So the mail list is another choice for those one.
Last bu not least, people can discuss their ideas and send their
patches to this list for reviewing, which are not related to
olph, debian and gnewsense. Of course the patches related debian/
gnewsense/glibc and so on are also welcome to be sent here for
reviewing, just like what Zhang Le just said, for not noising the
upstream. For example, what I am doing right now is adding loongson
emulation to qemu and porting kvm to loongson 2f. I think it is better
to discuss the issues of such stuff in this list rather than in debian
and gnewsense one. I can post the pathes of qemu in this list for
reviewing before sending to qemu list. And I can discuss the issues of
kvm porting in this list rather than in kvm list(there is NO kvm-mips
list at all).
In sum, this list is a place for all the information of loongson
development. All the stuff related to loongson 2f based such as
patches, comments and ideas are welcome. I do not mean to divide the
community, but to unite them into a more firm and professional
community.
